The Modernissimo Cinema was opened in 1914 with Phillips Smalley in “San Marco” (aka Il Leone di Venizia - The Merchant of Venice). This cinema was a two-screener even in the 1940’s as the Cine Modernissimo. Long-closed, it is now a branch of the Unicredit Bank.

On May 18, 1940, as the Modernissimo, this cinema was showing in its two auditoriums: Sala A, “La villa del mistero,” (Muss ‘em Up, 1936); Sala B, “Ex campione” (Ex-Champ, 1939.)
This cinema was most likely called the Imperial Cine during some of the fascist era and Cine Modernissimo before and after. That’s a guess.
