Located in the Harburg district of Harburg, to the south of the city. The Gloria Palast was built on the site of the Ufa Gloria Palast at Wilstorfer Strasse 34 (later renamed Luneburger Strasse 1) which had been destroyed in 1944 by Allied bombs (it has its own page on Cinema Treasures).
The new 1,010-seat Gloria Palast theatre opened in 1952 and was designed by architects Buchloh & Pochardt and was operated by Otto Peter & Walter Schutte. The seats were by Kamphoener. In 1979 it was twinned with seating for 610 & 220, and was operated by Jurgen Hanssen & Peter Schwoof. In 1983 it was taken over by Heinz Riech and became part of his Ufa theatre chain. In Hamburg the Ufa chain operated: the Ufa Palast at Gansemarkt, Ufa Grindel Palast at Grindelallee, City Filmtheater at Steindamm, Savoy at Steindamm, Aladin Kinocenter at Reeperbahn, Oase Kinocenter at Reeperbahn, Kinocenter at Glockengiesser and Studio Kino at Bernsdorstrasse (they all have their own pages on Cinema Treasures).
Heinz Riech split the Ufa Gloria into 4-screens and in 1993 a fifth screen was added The Ufa Gloria contained 314, 155, 208, 117 & 83 seats. In 1999 the CinemaxX Harburg opened nearby and the Ufa Gloria was closed.
It was demolished in 2007 and a new building on the site is named Gloria.
