Located in the Harburg district to the south of Hamburg. The Astoria Filmtheater was opened on 9th April 1951. It was located at Wallstrasse 23 (later renamed Neue Strasse 19 and today re-named Wallgraben 23). The Astoria Filmtheater replaced the Schauburg Harburg which stood on the site and was destroyed by Allied bombs in 1944 in World War II. Hans Overweg operated the cinema. There was a stage in front of the screen. The projectors were by Phillips. In 1956 CinemaScope was installed and a 4-channel stereophonic sound system was installed.
In July 1967 the Astoria Filmtheater was closed. In September 1967 Alliance Filmtheater GmbH operator Carl Heinz Moeller re-opened the cinema and it was re-named Die Kurbel Harburg. In 1969 his son took over. The cinema was closed in April 1988 and was converted into a casino. This later closed and it became a bar, which had closed by August 2008. The current use in 2019 is unknown
