The Novelty Theatre was launched by George McFarland and Frank Schram on July 20, 1907 showing motion pictures received from a Chicago distributor. The Columbus Amusement Company bought out the operation within a month renaming it the Lyric Theatre. It advertised 25 to 30 minutes of filmed entertainment for a dime.
As the ten-year lease cam due, a new Lyric Theatre was planned in 1916. That became the Swan Theatre project with the Lyric Theatre ceasing operations on March 8, 1917. The Swan Theatre opened April 2, 1917 (it has its own page on Cinema Treasures). The Swan Theatre was retrofitted for a long-running department store. The building has been razed for a modern bank.
