Frank Aydelotte opened the Trail Theatre on November 5, 1947, showing Joan Davis in “She Wrote the Book”, Glenn Ford in “Framed”, and Tom & Jerry in “Mouse Trouble”.
Film Daily Year Book listed the Trail Theatre’s capacity at 400 seats.
In a Fort Collins Coloradoan advertisement on January 1, 1954, Aydelotte wrote, “We have sold our Trail Theatre building for a commercial store. The equipment is being sold”. He urged patrons to visit his Aggie Theatre instead.
Despite hundreds of advertisements in the Coloradoan, the Trail Theatre never included its exact address as far as I can tell. It was definitely in the Old Town section, across from the Operation Election appliance store.
In a comment on another Fort Collins theatre, Joe Vogel suspected that the Trail Theatre may have been “at 148 W. Mountain Avenue, in the building now occupied by the Trail Head Tavern …, which still sports a theatre-style marquee”. That’s as good an address as any for now.

In the January 4, 1953 Motion Picture Trade Practices was a note from the owner of the theater giving some statistics of it’s operation and indicating that he would soon be opening the Aggie (see elsewhere on CT). See photo section.
