Located in the east of the city centre. The Gloria Palast#2 was a replacement to the former Gloria Palast#1 which had been located at 24 Hildesheimer, and was destroyed by Allied bombs in 1943 (it has its own page on Cinema Treasures). The Gloria Palast#2 was opened on 5th October 1945 and was operated by Herbert Kerkhoff & Robert Billerbek. The opening film was “Grosse Freiheit Nr 7” starring Hans Albers. In 1956 it was equipped with CinemaScope and a 4-channel stereophonic sound system. In 1961 two DP 70 projectors for 35mm & 70mm film by Phillips were installed. In 1962 a 3-strip Cinemiracle & Cinerama installation was added. The sound system was enlarged up to 7-channels. “Gone With the Wind” & “Doctor Zhivago” were screens and “Windjammer” was presented in Cinemiracle. In 1980 the Gloria Palast#2 was closed and demolished.
In 1974 a Gloria Kino Centre #3 was opened as a different address and has its own page on Cinema Treasures.
