Originally opened in 2000 by Paul Desmond, the Bay of Plenty Times reported in December 2014 that Mr. Desmond had sold his Mount Managua location to Event Cinemas.

Also included in the sale was Desmond’s Elizabeth Street location. It had closed by June 2024.
