Located in Crook, County Durham. The Theatre Royal was opened in 1893 with 800-seats. It was owned by W. Abbott who also designed the theatre. By 1927 it had been taken over by North East Coast Cinemas. Around 1930 it was equipped with a British Thomson-Houston(BTH) sound system. It was closed from 1933 to 1945.
It reopened as the Royal Cinema in 1946 and was operated by the Essoldo chain. The seating capacity was reduced to 480 and it was closed in 1960. It has since been demolished and the site is now a car parking lot.
