Where the 1901 map shows Main Street with a mix of houses and modest storefronts, the city was growing rapidly, and the 1907 map shows this block now full of substantial brick buildings.
Among these is the 450-seat Lyric Family Theatre, a one story building apparently without a balcony, offering ‘continuous vaudeville’. It had opened by March 1908. By 1914 it had been renamed Lyric Theatre, the rear wall had been slightly extended and straightened and the dressing rooms eliminated. A tobacco shop occupied a small space at the front, beside the entrance lobby.
It had closed by 1926 and at some point, both the Lyric Theatre and a large three-story newspaper building next door were demolished to make way for the still existing State Theatre.
