The July 7, 1969 issue of Boxoffice reported the Loveland-based Evergreen Theatres was about to open their 650-seat Century Theatre across from the post office on 5th Street. It had a 40x18-foot screen and “matching draperies in red, blue and gold”.
On August 25, 1969, Boxoffice said that Julian Stewart was the new manager of the Century Theatre “recently opened in Lamar”.
Dan Wolfenbarger bought the Century Theatre (and the local Arrow Drive-In) from Evergreen Theatres in January 1977. Two years later, he started work to twin the Century Theatre, then sold it (and the Arrow Drive-In) to Stan Dewsnup, per Boxoffice notes from March 12 and April 30 that year.
The address across 5th Street from the post office is 301 S. 5th Street, but the building there now doesn’t look like a former theatre. CT commenter mistymonet wrote (on the Lamar Theatre page) that the mortuary at 206 S. 5th Street is the former home of the Century Theatre. That building, across Elm Street from the post office, better looks the part.
