The Liberty Theatre was a World War I-era venue in downtown Lewsville that appears to have opened in 1918. The 250-seat theatre added sound to stay relevant until 1947 when owner Andy Sisk, formerly in sales for Paramount Theatre and the Wallace Theatre Circuit, took over the theatre.
Sisk bought a lot across the street from the Liberty Theatre to construct a new-build movie theater for the growing city in 1947. Post-war material shortages delayed the project into the 1950’s. The theatre may have taken on the name of the Andy Theatre from 1951 to 1953 though it is unclear. The new Andy Theatre opened in September of 1953 and had a formal opening on April 8, 1955.
The former Liberty Theatre was scheduled for demolition as the city reimagined its old downtown. Former Dallas Cowboy football star Walt Garrison purchased the theatre and repurposed for his rodeo operation. The city’s central business district took on the name, Old Town Lewisville. Its near neighbor was the Greater Community Theatre that had live plays into the 21st Century.
