Located in the city centre district of Essen Huttrop. The Olympia Filmtheater was opened in 1950 and was operated by Carl & Karl-Heinz Uhlendahl. The architect was Hanns Ruttgers who was based in Dusseldorf and he was assisted by Carl Uhlendahl. The seats were by Schroeder & Henzelmann and were located in orchestra & balcony levels. The stage was 15.5 x 5.8 meters and the front of the stage had space for a live orchestra. The colours of the auditorium were gray, blue & gold. The E VII projectors were by Ernemann and in 1955 CinemaScope and a 4-channel stereophonic sound system by Klangfilm was installed.
The cinema was closed in 1968.
The first live concert in Germany by Frank Zappa took place at the Olympia Theater on 27th September 1968. The cinema was later used as a supermarket and after that it became a clothing store named Wilhelm XXL.
