Located in Lowestoft, Norfolk, East Anglia. Built as a chapel, it was converted into the Chapel Cinema in the early-1930’s, screening 16mm films. A Cinematograph Licence was applied for in April 1936 and it was approved. It re-opened as the Ideal Cinema on 6th April 1936 with Shirley Temple in “Bright Eyes” & Zazu Pitts in “Mrs. Wiggs of the Cabbage Patch”. It had been equipped with a new British Thomson-Houston(BTH) sound system, new seats, and under new ownership it had been totally re-decorated in a modern style by London Theatre Specialists. A full sized projector and a new screen completed to refurbishment. The Ideal Cinema seems to have been a short lived venture as it had closed by 1939, possibly in September at the outbreak of World War II.
Later the building became a furniture store and by 1978 was closed up and derelict. It was later demolished and a house has been built on the site.
