Alhambra Theater

The Cabaret named Haus Hohmann was transformed into the Schauburg Lichtspiele which opened on 22nd August 1922 with “Nosferatu” directed by Fiedrich Wilhelm Murnau and starring Max Schreck. The theater had 982 seats. It was designed by architect named Rheder. The Schauburg Lichtspiele was operated by Carl Hohmann. In 1928 it was re-named Alhambra Theater and was operated by Filmhaus Bruckmann & Co AG Berlin SW based. In 1934 a sound system was installed. In 1937 the Asta Nielson Theater Betriebs KG Baltes took over. In 1942 the theater was destroyed by Allied bombs during World War II.

On 17th September 1949 a new Alhambra Theater was opened on same site. It was operated by Carl Weskamp Alhambra Theater KG. He also operated the Capitol Theater in Dusseldorf. The new Alhambra Theater had 1,150 seats in orchestra and balcony levels. The colour of the walls were yellow. the curtain was blue and the seats were red. In 1956 a CinemaScope screen was installed and a 4 channel stereophohonic sound system was added. The B 8 projectors were by Bauer.

The Alhambra Theater was closed on 28th April 1968. It became a Kaisers supermarket. It was demolished in 1985.
