Wesley Price and his wife established the “cozy” silent motion picture house, the Linwood Square Theatre, in his existing Price Block Building at the corner of Linwood Avenue. The 292-seat theatre launched on November 12, 1915 with Theda Bera in “A Fool There Was”. Price painted the entire three-story building in a shiny aluminum paint. A 1920 fire caused the theatre to close briefly re-emerging with a remodel.
On September 20, 1923, the Linwood Square Theatre. had a new owner in John H. Stoll. He sold the theatre in 1926 to his only competitor, the Loyal Order of Moose fraternal hall which ran the Moose Theatre. The Moose equipped both Norwalk movie houses for sound. However, the lease was expiring for the Linwood Square Theatre in 1932 so they announced a new-build Moose which would replace the Linwood Square Theatre. The previous Moose would be converted to a sub-run discount house.
The Linwood Square Theatre space was soon retrofitted for a shoe store within the Price Block Building. The three-story building still stands as of the 2020’s.
