The Bahnhofslichtspiele Altstadt opened on 9th January 1957 and was operated by Franz & Gerda Roder Bahnhofskino GmbH Essen, based in Oberhausen. The cinema contained a CinemaScope screen and a 4-channel sterophonic sound system. The FH 66 projectors were by Frieske & Hoepfner. In 1982 it was re-named (Neues) Cinema Filmtheater and was operated by Hans Georg Rehs based in Bochum. In 1994 it was taken over by the Ufa chain. In 1998 Udo Heimansberg operated the Cinema and it became part of the Filmkunst Kinos GmbH Dusseldorf chain. The Cinema #2 Filmkunst Kino screens arthouse movies and is a member of the Europa Cinemas group of art house cinemas.
