Located in Ardwick Green to the southeast of Manchester city centre, at the corner of Dolphin Street and Dolphin Place, just off Hyde Road and at the rear of the Ardwick Empire Theatre. The Coliseum was built as an ice skating rink. By 1914 it was operated as a cinema named Ardwick Coliseum, operated by Beaudyn & Moore.
In 1926 alterations were made to the plans of Altrincham based architect Herbert Harold Brown. It reopened in 1927 as the Coliseum Cinema and was operated by Ogdens Theatres Circuit. It was later equipped with a Western Electric(WE) sound system. By late-1948 it was operated by the Stoll Circuit, but had closed in Spring 1949. The final film to be screened was Eleanore King in “Birth of a Baby”. It was later demolished.
