Unfortunately television arrived in Sydney 1956, and soon had a detrimental effect on cinema attendance in nearby areas. Roxy screenings soon reduced from six days a week to four. This is the last advertisement for the Roxy in known newspaper records. Screenings may well have continued after 9th August 1958 – but with reduced publicity. Later Bruce Spence advised authorities that the Roxy had ceased use by 30th June 1959, and the building stood idle for several years.
