Lawson Mechanic’s Institute. Movies were first screened in the(1900’s or 1910’s?) by a travelling show(name unkown?). Name changed to Lawson Literary Institute in 1911. Talkies came in 1933. The hall was reopened in 1934 after a refurbishment in 1934. Closed in circa 1958. Name changed to Lawson Community Hall in circa 1980’s. Used as a youth centre in circa 1990. Heritage listing study undertaken in 2002, when under threat of demolition for road-widening. Saved circa 2008. Still used by the community for entertainment venue, though parking is an issue due to the road-Widening. 250 seats(1942 to 1955), 200 seats(1956 to 1958).
