Located in Newport, Monmouthshire (today Gwent). The Tredegar Hall was a general purpose public hall, built in the late-1800’s. Walter Davis was screening Animated Pictures here in 1906. In 1910 he took out a Cinematograph Licence and it advertised as Davis' Pictorial Entertainment until 1914 when it was taken over by A. Tilney & Son, becoming the Tredegar Hall Picture Theatre. In October 1922 it was taken over by Freedman, Harris & Cohen, followed briefly by Apollo Cinemas Ltd. Around 1929 it was taken over by London & Southern Super Cinmeas Ltd. and it was equipped with a Western Electric(WE) sound system. The proscenium was 25ft wide. There were 600-seats in the stalls and 419-seats in the circle.
In 1937 it was taken over by the Oscar Deutsch chain of Odeon Theatres Ltd. It was closed for floor repairs in December 1945 until it re-opened in April 1946. The Circuits Managment Association took over (an amalgamation of the Odeon & Gaumont chains), the Tredegar Hall was closed as a cinema on 29th March 1958.
It was converted into the Majestic Ballroom, operated by the Rank Organisation and on 16th September 1965 the Majestic Ballroom was part of the Odeon Division of the Rank Organisation. It was taken over by Star Cinemas, based in Leeds. It was closed and ‘For Sale in March 1994. By 2001 it was operating as the Jesper Bar & Nightclub. In recent years it became an Argos Extra store, which was closed around 2018.
