Located in Sacriston, County Durham. The Theatre Royal was opened in 1921. It was closed as a silent cinema in 1931. It went over to use as a dance hall and skating rink.
On July 26, 1954 it reopened as the Royal Cinema with Charles Chaplin in “Limelight”. Seating was provided for 382 in the stalls and 168 in the circle. It was equipped with CinemaScope, Superscope and VistaVision on 18th May 1958 and screened Burt Lancaster in “The Kentuckian” presented in CinemaScope. Unfortunately, it was soon closed.
