Opened in 1947 next door to the boyhood home of Johnny Cash in the historic Dyess Colony created as part of FDR’s New Deal in 1934.
Only the façade remained and a new structure was rebuilt in 2012 behind it as the new visitor orientation center.

Direct link to Colony Center restoration timeline, with photos of facade propped up. Street view also is still 2008, so it shows building in same condition. Scroll right in both.
