Located in the east of city district of Wandsbek at an address which was originally Hamburger Strasse 7 (after 1945 re-named Wandsbeker Marktstrasse 36). The Neues Kino Palast Theater was opened in 1910 with 300-seats. It was taken over by the Ufa chain in 1927. In 1929 it was enlarged into a 1,120-seat cinema to the plans of architect Peter Georg Saxen. It was operated by Hamburg cinema pioneer James Henschel Film & Theater Konzern and was re-named Schauburg Wandsbek. In 1930 a sound system by Tobis-Klangfilm was installed. It 1935 it was taken over by Roman & Schurmann. On 28th July 1943 the cinema was badly damaged by Allied bombs during World War II.
In 1954 the cinema was rebuilt to the plans of architectural firm Georg Koyen, Werner, Sander & Albrecht with a capacity of 901-seats in orchestra & balcony levels. The theatre was re-named Rex Filmtheater and was operated by Johannes Betzel & Co. KG. The cinema contained a CinemaScope screen. The FP 6 projectors were by Phillips and a 4-channel stereo sound system was installed. The seats were by Schroeder & Henzelmann.
The Rex Filmtheater was closed in December 1973 and was demolished in 1978. In 2020 an Edeka supermarket stands on the site.
