The Carthage Drive-In Theatre was located two miles east of the town on Highway 16. The long-running theatre raised eyebrows in 1974 when owner Colin Johnson set up an adult film membership club showing X-Rated films in the porno chic era.
The town’s population was just 3,000 but the greater area supported the adult films which Johnson said had more than 1,400 members. Films like “Working Girl$,” “The Hot Month of August”, and “Games Men and Women Play” screened there. But the latter is the one which Johnson and his projectionist were charged with obscenity.
The newspaper listed the Carthage Drive-In as inactive in 1988 though it’s not clear when it closed permanently.

A closer address is 2195 MS-16, Carthage, MS.
This is across the street from the drive-in which sat on the south side of the road.
Today, the property is overgrown, but you can still make out the ramps.
