In tiny post-War Whiteface, Texas, veteran operator Jack Holman opened a 464-seat movie theater in 1949. The Quonset Hut styled theatre had a seating in the balcony for persons of color and the main floor for White patrons. The theatre launched on May 18, 1949 with Robert Mitchum and Myrna Loy in “The Red Pony”.
The Home Theatre had many features including a cry room for babies and their parents, earphones for hard of hearing, men’s smoking lounge, and RCA sound equipment. Its 600 feet of neon tubing lit of the town in its evening operation seven-days a week. The air conditioning was a welcomed feature. The Home Theatre was still open in 1955, but had closed by 1956.
