The Majestic Theatre was a downtown theatre opened by L.S. Stallings. The theatre had a soft launch on April 18, 1934 followed by a grand opening on May 2, 1934 with Joan Blondell in “I Got Your Number”. The theatre was then purchased by Joe Vaughan installed a new sound system and projection renaming it as the Nocona Theatre. The rebranded Nocona launched January 24, 1936 with John Wayne in “The Oregon Trail” and a double bill with “Rainbow Riders” supported by a Popeye cartoon and Chapter 3 of “The Adventures of Rex and Rinty” with other short subjects.

During a full house screening on June 10, 1939, fire broke out in the Nocona booth when a nitrate film burst into flames in what was supposed to be a fireproof booth. But the fire spread with all patrons getting out safely. The fire destroyed the theatre, the City Barber Shop, Bennett’s Jewelry Store and Lasater Studio.

Vaughan would move the Nocona’s bookings to his Roxy Theatre. That theatre would burn down in March of 1942.
