In the “Images of America San Luis” book, Dana Maestas wrote, “Owned by Mike Joseph, the Liberty Theatre was one of two theatres located in the central business district of San Luis, the other being the San Luis Theatre across the street by R&R Market. Families attended the movies on Sunday afternoons for 25¢ per person. It cost 10¢ for the movie and 15¢ for a drink and popcorn. Newsreels, such as those produced during World War II, would come on before the featured movie. The theatre had a mezzanine, and many times was standing room only. The theatre building was destroyed in the 1980’s”.
The 1950 Film Daily Year Book listed only the Liberty Theatre, with 340 seats, for San Luis.
