The Metropol Theater was opened in 1920, located at Mittelstrasse 58/59. It had 260-seats and was operated by Alios Weiler. In 1941 it was badly damaged by Allied bombs during World War II. In 1949 it was repaired and re-opened.
In 1952 a new Metropol Theater was opened, located at Hermannstrasse (which in 1955 was re-named Heddesdorferstrasse). It was built to the plans of architects Ernst Huhn & Oskar Mendel. Seating was provided for 700 in orchestra and balcony levels. The walls of the auditorium were covered with red velevet and the screen curtain was silver. In 1956 it was equipped with CinemaScope and a 4-channel stereophonic sound system by Klangfilm was installed The B 8A projectors were by Bauer. The seats were by Schroeder & Henzelmann. In 1980 a store next to the Metropol was converted into screen Bambi with 80-seats & screen Prinzess with 75-seats. The original auditorium was not touched, although it now contains fewer seats due to modern seats being larger. The Cinema was re-named Metropol Kinocenter. The family Weiler still operate the cinema.
