Located close to the junction of Myrtle Avenue and Auburn Boulevard northeast of the city. The Towne International Theatre was opened in 1966 and featured foreign and art films during the daytime. It was built by the Longtin brothers as a follow-up to their Guild Theatre. It later screened adult porn movies on weekdays and art films at midnight on weekends. “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” was a popular midnight weekend attraction. It was closed in July 1986.
The building today is a welding workshop.

For several years in the 1970s it was home to the KZAP Midnight Movies on Friday and Saturday, a pretty broad series of films. At least once the series included “Behind the Green Door” but was not usually that blatantly “adult” despite what the theater ran the rest of the week. Some films were run in 35mm, others in 16mm, seemingly arbitrarily.
