Located in the Te Aro district of the city centre. The Britannia Theatre was opened on 15th December 1913. It had a wide arched entrance. On 15th March 1935 it was re-named Roxy Theatre in honour of the famed Roxy Theatre in New York. It had 494-seats in stalls and circle levels. It had a rather narrow auditorium. In the late-1930’s it was leased to the Amalgamated Theatres chain for a short while.

The Roxy Theatre was closed on 22nd January 1974 with Timothy Bottoms in “The Last Picture Show”.
