Plaza Theatre

Located in the Te Aro district of the city centre. The Plaza Theatre was opened on 3rd August 1934 by the Amalgamated Theatres chain. The opening film was “Bright Side Up”. Seating was provided on stalls and a small circle levels. The auditorium was illuminated by concealed lighting. During its life the Plaza Theatre suffered damage from two fires and the 1942 earthquake.

It was closed on 29th June 1985. It was demolished in 1986 and an office block was built on the site.
