The Capitol Lichtspiele was opened around 1930. It had 1,000-seats and was operated by Emil and Hugo Picht. In 1943 the cinema was badly damaged by Allied bombs during World War II.
In 1949/1949 a new cinema was built on the site and was re-named Capitol Theater. It was opened on 12th April 1949 and was operated by Filmtheaterbetriebe Heukeshoven & Co KG. The Cinema was designed by architects Hanns Ruttgers & Karl Weygand. with 850-seats in the orchestra and balcony level. In 19557 a second screen named Capitol Studio Kino with 250-seats was added. In 1959 the cinema was renovated, again to the plans of architect Hanns Ruttgers.
In 1978 it was taken over by Hans Georg Rehs. In 1980 the cinema was partly destroyed by fire. The cinema was rebuilt as a miniplex with 6-screens. It was designed by architect R. Bertig. In 1986 it was re-named Bofimax Kino. In 2017 the cinema was converted into a Dolby theatre and was renamed Capitol Kino.
