The Star Theatre opened in 1910, and is the second established theatre in the city of Crystal Lake, with a follow-up from the nearby Gem Theatre on first. Some known employees who worked at the Star Theatre were R.W. Gracy who was a proprietor before owning the nearby Gem Theatre after closing the Crystal Theatre in 1917, and former conductor of the Star Theatre W.H. Stage who sadly passed away in Elgin on January 9th, 1918.
The Star Theatre closed when Winter Storm Warnings slam into Crystal Lake in the middle of March 1918, including the more-popular Gem Theatre which closed for a few months during Christmas Week 1917 until reopening on March 23rd, 1918 and continued its first-run success later on, but it marked the end of the Star Theatre’s life as it never reopened after the storms.
