The Dunning Theatre dates back to the silent era in downtown Dunning. The theatre transitioned to sound to stay viable. Lester Harris of Harris Theatres took on the Halsey Theatre, the Dunning Theatre, and a new theatre in Brewster called the Harris Theatre.
On March 5, 1955, the Halsey Theatre converted to stereo sound and widescreen to present CinemaScope films. The final owner of the theatre was Norval Van Diest who took on the theatre in 1960 but the theatre appears to have gone out of business shortly thereafter.
