Located in Marlborough, Wiltshire. Built before 1859 as a Corn Exchange by the Marquess of Ailesbury. The Electric Picture Hall was opened in 1915. It was operated by Mr. G. Sheffield. It was later operated by the Williams family and was re-named Electric Theatre.
It was equipped for sound around 1930 and was taken over by Miss A. Hillyer, who re-named it Cinema. She lived at 21 High Street and a Café Nero is at that address which is named Hilliers Chambers
The Cinema was closed on 7th August 1971 with Arthur Lowe in “Dad’s Army”. It lay unused for several years until mid-1976 when the roof was removed and the auditorium was demolished. Since 21st October, 1974 the façade was a Grade II Listed building and a Waitrose supermarket uses it now as the entrance to their supermarket which was built on the site of the auditorium.
