The Liberty Theatre opened December 21 1916. On October 1, 1936 it was remodeled and taken over by the Yellowstone Amusement Company who renamed it the New Lake Theatre. The opening film on December 5, 1936 was Joel McCrea, Merle Oberon, and Miriam Hopkins in “These Three”. In 1939 the Yellowstone Amusement Co. operated 17 theatres in Montana and Idaho.
By 1938 the Lake Theatre was operated by Simons Amusement Co., a chain of 22 theatres in Montana and Idaho, headed by Edna Wilma Simons. Edna had been married to Billy Simons who passed away in 1937 and is remembered for opening the Wilma Theatre in Missoula in 1921.
On March 1, 1956, an advertisement in the Flathead Courier noted the theatre was closed until further notice, leaving the Park Theatre as Polson’s only theatre. By 2018 the former Lake Theatre is in use as a Thrift Store.

When remodeled and reopened in late 1936, this house was called the New Lake Theatre, according to the December 3, 1936 issue of The Flathead Courier, which announced that the grand opening of the house was to take place on December 5.
