M.C. Freed and Mr. Beck brought a motion picture theatre to town in Oakland in 1910 at the corner of 4th Street and Oakland Avenue. In 1912, James C. Williams traded his barber shop in Onawa for the theatre. Several owners later, the Larson family stabilized the theatre running it from World War I under H. Mickey “Mick” Larson continuing to his death during World War II in 1944.

Mick’s brother, Edward E. Larson, built a new Majestic theatre after the War launching in May of 1948. Interest in the Majestic Theatre waned with the theatre ultimately going out of business. On a different corner on which the original Majestic Theatre launched is a more well known entertainment place. That’s where its long-running Art Deco City Auditorium is situated. That building was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
