Purported to be the first dedicated movie theatre in Gouverneur. The Wonderland Theatre was started by shoe dealer, Robert Magee in 1907. A number of individuals operated the theatre in it’s first two years until William H. Gauthier started operations in 1909.
In time he realized that the movie business needed larger quarters, closed the Wonderland Theatre and opened a second floor theatre in the Bowne Building. He later opened a ground floor theatre under the second floor theatre, and cut a hole in the ceiling creating a balcony.
The location and name of this theatre has not been determined.

The evidence is hazy but it would appear that the second theatre operated by Mr. Gauthier was in the second Union Hall Building which was built on the site of the first which had burnt down in 1877. Unfortunately the second Union Hall suffered the same fate on July 17, 1922, three years after a theatre was created by Mr. Gauthier.
