Located in Bramhall, to the south of Stockport, Cheshire, on a corner site with Woodford Road and Meadway. It was designed by Stockport based architect George Clayton and the auditorium was decorated in a Tudor style. It was built for Bramhall Tudor Cinema Proprietors Ltd. The Tudor Cinema was opened on 31st March 1935 with Clark Gable in “It Happened One Night”. Seating was provided for 1,250, with 700 in the stalls and 550 in the balcony. It had a 30ft wide proscenium, the stage was 20ft deep and there were four dressing rooms. It was equipped with a British Thomson-Houston(BTH) sound system. The cinema also had a cafĂ© for the convenience of its patrons and a car park for 1,000 cars.
In January 1947 it was taken over by the James Brennon chain. On 1st January 1950 it briefly dropped films in favour of stage productions. Films returned on 30th March 1953 and in January 1955 the Brennan leased expired and it was closed. The original operators took over and installed CinemaScope, re-opening on 2nd January 1956 with Edmund Purdom in “The Student Prince”. The seating capacity was reduced to 903. The Tudor Cinema was closed on 15th October 1958 with Richard Burton in “Bitter Victory” & Randolph Scott in “Decision at Sundown”. It was purchased by the Council and was demolished in February 1961 and a supermarket and shops in a building named Tudor House was built on the site.
