Located in the northeast Berlin district of Mitte, adjacent to the Amore Lichtspiele (1904-1936) which was located at Brunnenstrasse 155. The Casino Lightspiele was opened in 1926 with 600-seats. In 1931 it was equipped with a sound system. Around 1942 during World War II, the Casino Lichtspiele was closed.
It was re-opened in 1949 and was operated by Russian distributer Sovexport Film GmbH. In 1952 it was renovated to the plans of architect Gerhard Fritsche and was re-named Filmbuhne Berlin. In 1960 the VEB Volkseigener Betrieb Berliner Filmtheater took over. The cinema was closed in 1966 and was in use as a record sound studio operated by VEB Volkseigener Betrieb Amiga Schallplatten. After the opening up of the Berlin Wall in 1989 it was transformed into a nightclub.
