Kisco Theatre

The Kisco Theatre opened January 17, 1928, with Joan Crawford and William Haines in “Spring Fever”. The Brewster Standard reported the owner, Harry Goldstein, built 40 theatres including the Detroit Hippodrome in 1911. Mr. Goldstein was planning on managing the theatre and making his home in Mount Kisco.

The Standard said the $200,000 building, with two stores on the first floor and three offices above, was completely fireproof. The seating was of the same style as New York’s Roxy Theatre. On January 27 a $25,000 organ from the Paige Organ Company was premiered. On March 8, 1929, a Warner Bros. Vitaphone system was installed, with the Standard heaping praise on Myrna Loy in “State Street Sadie”.

Restoring Mount Kisco History notes from 1954 to 1955 there was a realignment of the railroad tracks and the elimination of the grade crossing. At the time the theatre and other businesses were torn down and replaced by a railroad overpass.

Film Daily Year Book 1940 lists the Kisco Theatre with 700 seats.
