At right is the “Strength War” waged by adult cinemas trying to prove they had the most mature content in their city. The Las Vegas Cinema going with the “XXXXX” label for its unrated content. And there was no problem until the film, “Deep Throat” came along in early 1973 (left).

The local paper - which had accepted far wilder ads - drew the line allowing only “Throat” in the listings. And that’s when the cops descended - in the film’s fifth week - and tried to end the Vegas Cinema. Owner Stanley Tabron would not be bullied, however.
