The Marshall Drive-In Theatre opened for business on Thursday, May 26, 1949, with the movie, “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” starring Danny Kaye". That’s according to a tribute on the front page of the Albertville Herald 11 years later.
The article continued, “The drive-in has operated year-round and, except for brief periods of bad weather, has been closed only during the two months following a fire which destroyed the concession stand in the spring on 1958. A new fireproof concession stand replaced the burned building”.
The 1958 Motion Picture Almanac included two drive-ins in Albertville, the Shadyside Drive-In and the Marshall Drive-In, both owned by Thomas E. Orr, both capacity 400 cars.
