The Electric Theatre was opened as a cinema in January 1911. In 1917 it went over to live theatre use and was renamed Empire Theatre. Films were brought back for summer seasons and it was operated by the Thomas Ormiston chain. It was closed in 1958 and was converted into a garage. It has since been demolished.
