The town of Golborne, which is now within the Metropolitan Borough of Wigan, lies five miles south-east of Wigan and six miles north-east of Warrington.
It is not known when the Jubilee Cinema opened, but it was first listed in the Kinematograph Year Books in 1936, albeit with a very abbreviated entry.
A fuller entry followed in 1937, showing that the Jubilee Cinema was operated by Doman Enterprises Ltd. and shows were twice nightly, with matinees on Monday and Saturday. A British Talking Pictures(BTP) sound system had been installed. By 1944 it was operated by the W.J. Speakman Circuit.
The Jubilee Cinema does not appear to have been equipped with CinemaScope.
It is not known when the Jubilee Cinema closed, but its final entry in the Kinematograph Year Books was in 1961.
It is also not known what uses, if any, the building went into after its life as a cinema ended. It was still standing in 1994, but has, since then, been demolished and replaced by a block of flats. In a nice nod to its cinematic past, these are called Jubilee Court.
