An early history of Laurium, Michigan indicates that in 1906 there were 4 theatres in town. I found specific references to the Peoples Theatre from 1911. At that time the proprietor was A.L. Cooley.
The theatre made the transition to talkies and in 1939 installed the “Magic Voice of the Screen” RCA sound system. By 1941 it was operated by Fox Wisconsin Circuit through their subsidiary Fox Calumet Corp. and by 1943 through their subsidiary Fox Badger Theatre Corp.
For a time the theatre was operated by the Michigan based Thomas Theatre Group. It was still open in the 1960’s.

I’ve uploaded a 1911 photo in front of the theatre, a September 1911 ad for the theatre and the 1939 announcement of the mega sound system.
The Peoples Theatre operated at least into the 1960s. In a comment on Water Winter Wonderland’s page for the house, the then-owners' niece recalls working there during that decade.
