Fred Jones launched the new-build New Theatre on August 29, 1920 in downtown Nelson. After improvements, the theatre became the Rialto Theatre on March 3, 1921. In 1929, the paper switched to sound films and played Paratone talking movies. The long-running theatre closed after more than 40 years on February 24, 1962 with “The Harlem Globetrotters”.
