The town of Ponca was served by its 19th Century opera house and its first theatre which opened in 1901. The town’s Royal Theatre was its long-standing movie house dedicated to movies for more than thirty years. In April of 1930, the Royal Theatre installed sound to remain viable.

Operator Roy and Gladys Andress closed the theatre in the early-1930’s but relaunched it in 1934 before closing again a year later 1935. After a refresh, the theatre was renamed the Ponca Theatre on August 15, 1936 with Chester Morris in “Counterfeit”.

    1. Sherman took on the venue in 1945. On November 1, 1951, Chris and Alvin Roth took on the venue. The Ponca Theatre was closed on July 31, 1954.

The Ponca was closed July 31, 1954 by owner Glenn Hiatt. A new operator was identified in 1955 planning to reopen the theatre but appears to have not done so.
