This is an old purpose built cinema building which originally faced on to Lenin Street at Central Square. It appears from its outside displays to be operational in June 2021.
Its original front of house facing Lenin Street is now blocked off by a row of small businesses. To the south side of the building, facing the square, is a very modern portico (by local standards) surrounded by advertising posters for forthcoming shows.

Following some research it is now known that the cinema is named after Barpy Alykulov 1884 -1949. He was a famous Kyrgyz singer and story teller who wrote of peasant life in czarist days. His place of birth was Suzak; a settlement to the west of Jalal-Abad city.
The old name on the top of the facade is ‘Kinoteatr Mir’. Probably a Soviet-era building.
