The Pierce Opera House opened on October 10, 1895. In the early-1900’s, motion pictures proved to be so popular that the opera house was converted to almost full-time movie exhibition in 1915. The Opera House became the Pierce Theatre in 1922. A new theatre - which appears to be the Strand Theatre - opened in February of 1923.
From a news note, the Pierce Theatre may have moved to the Strand Theatre - although that may not be the case. However, it is certain that on April 29, 1929, the theatre installed Vitaphone to present sound films to remain viable. Ten years later, the Pierce Theatre received a Streamline Moderne style makeover by operator Mel Kruse. One November 25, 1954, Kruse installed widescreen projection to present CinemaScope films.
By the 1960’s, the theatre was operating just four days a week. The Pierce Theatre appears to have gone out of business in 1964.
